    Neodymium-doped yttrium vanadate (Nd:YVO4) crystal is an excellent laser crystal, which is suitable for manufacturing diode laser pumped especially low-power lasers. Compared to Nd:YAG, Nd:YVO4 possessing a higher absorption coefficient and greater stimulated emission cross section. Diode laser-pumped Nd:YVO4 and LBO, BBO, KTP nonlinear crystals of high coefficient can be used together to achieve better frequency conversion efficiency and obtain all-solid-state lasers having the output from near-infrared, green and blue to UV. Nowadays, Nd:YVO4 laser has been widely used in the areas of mechanical, materials processing, spectroscopy, chip testing, displays, medical testing, laser printing, and data storage. Moreover, Nd:YVO4 diode-pumped solid-state laser is quickly replacing the market share of traditional laser constitute of water-cooled ion laser and light-pumped laser, especially in small and single longitudinal mode output.

Nd:YVO4¨s advantages over Nd:YAG

As high as about five times larger absorption efficient over a wide pumping bandwidth around 808 nm(therefore, the dependency on pumping wavelength is much lower and a strong tendency to the single mode soutput)

As large as three times larger stimulated emission cross-section at the lasing wavelength of 1064nm

Lower lasing threshold and higher slope efficiency

As a uniaxial crystal with a large birefringence, the emission is only a linearly polarized.
